A Tale of Two Cities

Author: Charles Dickens

Waste forces within him, and a desert all around, this man stood still on his way across a silent terrace, and saw for a moment, lying in the wilderness before him, a mirage of honourable ambition, self-denial, and perseverance. In the fair city of this vision, there were airy galleries from which the loves and graces looked upon him, gardens in which fruits of life hung ripening, waters of hope that sparkled in his sight. A moment, and it was gone. Climbing to a high chamber in a well of houses, he threw himself down in his clothes on a neglected bed, and its pillow was wet with wasted tears,

My Thoughts: So far I'm not enjoying this one as much as Great Expectations, but it does have it's moments and bursts of really great writing so I am pushing through and enjoying the good moments as them come :).

  1. Sadly, I never was a big Dickens fan.

    1. This is only my second book I've read by him. Great Expectations was alright, but I am having a hard time getting into this one. Thanks for stopping by!

  2. This is one of those intimidating books I've been trying to avoid forever. :)

    1. Me and Jenn are working on a list together trying to get most of the classics under our belt. Some of them are hard work to get through, but some of them surprise you and turn out to be something you love. I suppose it's the same with any book though haha. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Better you than me :) I just could never get into Dickens for some reason - Great Expectations killed it for me.

    1. I actually liked great expectations. but so far this one is not doing it for me =P.

  4. I've only read one Dickens book and that was A Christmas Carol. I really need to try out one of his others but I'm never sure which one start with.
